Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, Spice and Nice! I take time to appreciate the things I do not know and to learn from the things I do. You will find poetry, lots and lots of poetry, recipes, ramblings of my insanity, and the occasional post on the importance of relaxing far, far away from other people.

Some days, I will unfold my thoughts and share my distress, other days, I will write to encourage you to keep going.

I take pride in the words that I put down and wish to be a source of encouragement and odd laughter. I am a huge fan of cooking good food and laughing with lovely people. My poetry and recipes attest to that.

I hope you find inspiration in my words while moving forward.

  • Crafted: Neither Bitter Nor Bold

    January 27, 2020 by

In her hands and far from the eyes of mere mortal men  She crafts a friend  To begin again  Eyes of Jasper to see what the soul hides Ears of elm to listen to the wind  Lips of Sapphire, harsh words do not fade fast  A heart of silver, neither pure nor bitter  Legs of… Read more

  • Only Silence

    January 26, 2020 by

I wish to drift away  To float in the uncertainty of my state                          Yet there is only silence

  • A Review of Dark Matter By Blake Crouch

    January 25, 2020 by

Before I begin, I want to let you know that this is not a common thing. I don’t write reviews of books because I am a book blogger or want to be, I write because I find it exciting and as a goal to read a lot more books going forward in my life; I… Read more

  • Between The Cracks Of My Mask

    January 23, 2020 by

My mask, just like the others Has cracks in the cheekbones and odd places Just below the temple And across the brow You might wander Up and down a hall In and out of rooms long forgotten Before you notice these cracks They take a moment or two To see that not all masks are… Read more

  • These Empty Pages Feel No Pain

    January 21, 2020 by

I look at empty pages  where the words should be  They gnaw at my being I can not write these feelings down  I can not face them  I am weak Do the strong wither with pages full of words Do they stand and face the wind  Do they scream at their fears I do not… Read more

  • This Constant Place of Motion

    January 19, 2020 by

The words pass me by  Zooming into the night  Careless about their flight for freedom  My insides shiver  Rambling words leave my tongue  How did I become so undone? A sudden fear takes over And I am alone again  Then it’s the anger  A rage swells within me  Like a river that has grown too… Read more

  • The Frailty Of Large Ideals

    January 16, 2020 by

For me the world is built on big ideas Large ideals, like kindness and somber thoughts Mournful visions of the past  Mindful planning of the future For a world so large, yet so small I weep, like a child that has just lost its mother without understanding the gravity of lost  I weep, face strained… Read more

  • My Friends Are Finding New Places

    January 14, 2020 by

The other day as I wandered out loud  “My friends are finding new places to call their own.” The misery of being alone set in  In those new places are new faces Jokes that I may never hear  Stories of childhoods I thought were meant for me My friends are finding new places  In which… Read more

  • Deep Valley, Strong with Delight

    January 12, 2020 by

The owls do no know you  So look away, they come ever speedily  The stars do not see you  They are blinded by a wish that bears no fruit On valley deep within  Can you be my refuge  Can you hold my sin  Let me cower here In the folds of your embrace  Let my… Read more

  • A Review of Lincoln In The Bardo By George Saunders

    January 11, 2020 by

I have never written a review of a book for my blog, and I don’t intend for it to become a regular thing. You see, I read this book, and I wanted to talk to someone about it. This review has a few spoilers and probably strong opinions. I begin by saying that I did… Read more
