I closed my eyes and forgot to breathe

Like small snowflakes on a winter’s eve

That linger in the wind

Caressing the cold air

I raise my head to face the night’s sky

I am alone here

Abandoned by reason and time

I unfold myself into little pockets of reality

I am free here

The trees rustle with hymns

And I hum for the first time in years

I hum and smile
