She Prays

Arabic, Praying

By no small feat, she stands alone

Holding on to the promises

Keeping to the faith

She has prayed

To the gods of old

To no avail

Her cries falls on deaf ears

She takes her faith into her own hands

Looking for gods in places left forgotten

Making sacrifices on altars

That was once painted in blood

Her fate is her own

Taking the prayers

Once tossed along the wayside

Leading them to a new home

She prays to God

This time her faith is stronger

She will not be denied

Please Father

Grant her one more moment

To see the sunrise

Before she departs

From this plane of reality

She prays

If only to find hope

In destitute moments

When darkness looms in the distance

And the light has gone out

She prays

For the light of tomorrow’s sunrise
