I am Unworthy

Man standing against sunset

I’m unworthy
A sad little thing
With no place to call home
I am the scum they warn you about
The habit you shouldn’t pick up
The one friend you should stay away from
A fool
A liar
A misguided child
A mistake yet to be made
A disappointment waiting to happen
I’m unworthy
Never good enough
For the plans you have for me
A failure in the making
Yet you look down
And love me
Without a doubt
Not caring for my past
The mess I am
You simply show me a kindness that breaks my heart
You love me despite the scars
My Lord you take pity on a soul like mine
I’m broken
Withering away
And yet you care
Holding my pieces together
Loving me
As if I could ever be worthy

I love this poem because it’s simply beautiful, but I hate it at the same time because of the thought that someone can feel that. Amazing writing.

I completely understand what you mean, it can be a battle with the things I write.

That, to me, is excellent poetry though
