I Have Tucked My Wings

caged bird

I have tucked my wings in
Afraid of flight
Pretending to be an injured bird
When the world is larger than what you hoped to be
It weighs heavily on one’s mind
I said it one too many times
I can’t fly
For fear of falling
I refuse to dream
Because the nightmares are just too real
So I’ll tuck my wings
Become satisfied with lesser things
I’ll pretend to have reached my potential
In case I’m ever asked to fly
I’ll refuse to take a risk in the wind
Cling to the ground
Refusing to make a sound
Can caged birds really fly again?
