A Special Blend Detox

You may or may not be used to me writing detoxes each Sunday.

If that’s the case, I would like to introduce myself. Hi, my name is Joy and I love to cook, write poems, and do silly things. I am too hyperactive for my age and that’s okay, I am only hyperactive when my chronic pain is low.

Which means like once a month. And that’s a great thing if you have no idea how chronic pain work. I am in pain all the time and often so distracted by the huge burden that it has on our lives that I become upset with myself.

I have tried countless medications and remedies, which led me to conduct more research on different types of foods and how they affect the body. I found out foods like potatoes and the really hot peppers that I love often cause me to have flare-ups. While foods like ginger and turnip greens really help my pain in the long run.

This special detox calls for some of the foods that naturally help with my flare ups and that also pack a delicious punch to the gut.

While I appreciate a detox that helps the bowels move about, it’s not always the solution I am looking for. Some days I just want a detox that is delicious and that makes my skin glow in 17 different languages and makes my mind and body feel in sync. No, I know not all my stars will align (pretty sure I have no idea what all my stars aligning will do, but here’s to hoping).

Putting together some natural greens, fruit, and a few spices to fight inflammation is all I really need. And that is exactly what I did, I now drink it at least three times a week and have experienced less dramatic pain in my day to day life.

You can freeze some of the fruits beforehand if you want it to be a cold blend or just add ice.

Note of Caution

Ingredients

1/2 medium-sized cucumber

1 cup of washed and chopped turnip greens

1 tbsp of chopped ginger

1/2 cup of strawberry ( you can mix and match different fruits here if you like)

1 cup of apple juice (or your favorite 100% fruit juice)

Instructions

  1. Place all your ingredients in a blender.
  2. Press the magic button and blend until smooth.
  3. Chug it down superstar!
