Hey, lovely people. How are you doing today? Are you up? Are you down? Well, I’m sideways.

I feel crappy and cranky. I have been having a very painful weekend and that’s surprisingly okay. I know that some days, months, years will be just… Well beyond my belief of just how south a day can go.

You know how people sometimes say that you have to pick yourself up when you are down.

So here’s a pick me up. What better way to pick yourself up than something a little fierce. When I say fierce, I actually mean spicy. But why can’t spicy be good, too?

I have to consider that not everyone likes spicy food or detox for that matter. Sure I would love to say, only drink the ones you like. Because why not? It’s your body and you definitely know much more about it than I do.

So, let’s talk about this detox, huh? I love blueberries, and well just about any other fruit. For this detox, I want you to use your favorite fruit, as long as it works with the flavor.

I chose bananas and blueberries because unfortunately my favorite fruit is in another country and does not export well.

Obviously, you know I am about to add some spices to give it a nice kick. To this delicious blend, I added cayenne pepper, cumin ground, ginger root, and a bit of white pepper which is definitely optional. The fruit gives it a natural sweetness and the spices, well they spice it up.

The main reason I used cumin is to continue incorporating it into my lifestyle for the next two weeks.

Cumin and ginger help to fight inflammation, while cayenne is a much-needed boost to your immune system. This blend of spices works to help improve your gut health and balance both blood pressure and cravings. I suggest drinking this as a smoothie, but remember to add plenty of water to your diet to help flush your system out.

As for the fruits, banana is full of potassium and is a good source of natural sugar, while blueberries are filled with antioxidants and nutrients for your body.

Note of Caution

For those who are pregnant or may become pregnant, you should not consume cumin in large doses.

Cumin may lower the sperm count in men who are trying to conceive.

Too much ginger, when combined with cayenne pepper, can damage the lining of your stomach.

Just take everything in moderation and you will be okay.

I love food and community. Pretty simple right? Life should be simple and full of opportunities to grow and become a better person.
